Priyanka evasive on entering politics

AMETHI APRIL 15 . Priyanka Vadra, daughter of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, today smiled away a question on her entering active politics.

On a day's visit to review the relief works in three villages where a fire damaged 185 houses, she merely smiled when asked by a satellite channel whether she would contest the next Lok Sabha elections. Later, however, she said she would decide at the time of the polls.

She tried to avoid the issue when some residents raised a demand that she should contest from Amethi. However, referring to her efforts to initiate more developmental works in Amethi, she said, ``Had the Centre and State Government been more supportive, we could have done a lot more.''

Her visit to Amethi, Mrs. Vadra said, was in no way ``political'' as she had a "bond of affection" with the place and the people. She also distributed wheat, rice and utensils to the victims of the blaze. — UNI
