POTA review panel decision binding on Executive: Advani

CHENNAI OCT. 28. Declining to comment on the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's opposition to the ordinance amending POTA, the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, said today that the decisions of the review committee would be binding on the Executive, both the Central and State.

"I do not want to comment on it. It is a decision taken by the Cabinet and it says the decisions of the review committee, for which there are provisions in the law, would be binding on the Executive," Mr. Advani told newspersons in an informal chat at the Chennai airport before returning to New Delhi.

Mr. Advani flew down to Chennai in the afternoon and then went to Pondicherry to attend the funeral of the Pondicherry Lt. Governor, K.R. Malkani, who died on Monday.

On the lukewarm response from Pakistan to the recent confidence building measures in the form of a 12-point peace proposal by India, Mr. Advani said: "Whatever I wanted to say, I have already commented."
