JAIPUR: The police opened fire at Soyla village in Rajasthan's Tonk district on Monday, killing five villagers, including a woman, on the spot. After teargas and lathicharge failed to quell a violent mob demanding water from the Bisalpur dam in the district, the police resorted to firing.

At least half a dozen villagers with serious injuries have been hospitalised. Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria announced a judicial probe.
