Ojha removal: NDA calls for Bihar bandh

PATNA Dec. 7. Protesting against the removal of D.P. Ojha from the post of DGP, the NDA has issued a call for a Bihar bandh on December 9 to demand the dismissal of the State Government. The State Government has served Mr. Ojha with a show-cause notice as to why departmental proceedings should not be initiated against him for violating service rules.

The Government handed him a 24-point memo seeking an explanation regarding the various statements he had made in his public speeches against the ruling party leaders and the recommendation of the CBI that departmental proceedings be initiated against him in connection with the fodder scam case.

The constituents of the NDA held a meeting on Sunday, chaired by the State coordinator, N.K. Yadav, and decided to observe the bandh, alleging that the Government had acted under the pressure of the jailed RJD MP, Shahbuddin. The NDA also demanded the dismissal of the State Government.

The BJP took out a rally during which an auto-rickshaw was turned upside down.

Police halted the demonstrators at the periphery of the security zone and arrested among others the party's State unit chief, Gopal Narain Singh, who was released later.

The LJP also staged a dharna against the ``politically motivated action''.

The LJP and the left parties are planning their future course of action.

On Saturday, the Excise Minister, Shivanand Tiwari, had to bear the brunt of public ire at the Patna book fair, when he spoke out against Mr. Ojha during an interaction with the public.

The trading community today honoured Mr. Ojha by giving him a platform to interact with them. Mr. Ojha said that the trading community was at the receiving end of the kidnapping gangs of which, he accused Mr. Shahbuddin of being the mentor.
