No safe passage to militants during Bihu: Gogoi

GUWAHATI MARCH 29. The Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, today said his Government would not offer safe passage to militants during the Bihu festival.

Assam had been doing so for several years to help the ultras return home during the festive season, but would not do so this time as the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) had rejected the safe passage earlier. ``This has become embarrassing and we are not going to repeat it,'' Mr. Gogoi said.

Asked whether he would offer safe passage to the ULFA Chairman, Aurobindo Rajkhowa, to visit his ailing freedom-fighter father, Mr. Gogoi reiterated that the offer had been standing for a long time. — UNI
