`Muslims pray in mosques'

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: : Muslims throughout the world pray in mosques and not in `dargahs' which are shrines where saints are buried, the Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali said, in a statement here.

It was surprising that certain Muslims, including political leaders, are giving the impression that the `dargah' is the place to worship and offer prayers, he added. Clarifying that one visits the `dargah' only to invoke the Almighty's blessings on the saints buried there, Mr. Ali said it was the duty of religious heads, scholars and elders to educate people not to be misled by the wrong example. Asking for favours from the dead is strictly against the teachings of Islam, he added.
