‘Stop commercialisation of Malleswaram'

People's representatives and residents of Malleswaram on Sunday demanded scrapping of the proposed construction of residential and commercial complexes in the locality.

The demand was made at a citizens' meet organised here by Jagrutha Nagarikara Sanghatane (Malleswaram) and Malleswaram Swabhimana Initiative. The meeting demanded addressing traffic, pollution and parking problems being caused by Mantri Mall; scrapping of the public-private partnership agreement between Bangalore Metro and Mantri Developers and stopping conversion of the existing lung spaces in Malleswara into parking lots.

Speaking at the meeting, Bangalore Central Lok Sabha Member P.C. Mohan feared that even walking in Malleswaram could become difficult if the proposed construction activities are allowed to go on. “This is not development of Bangalore, but that of the developer,” he quipped. Mr. Mohan assured the people that he would be with them while meeting the Chief Minister and the Minister-in-charge of Bangalore.
