NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday criticised Pakistan for dubbing as “immature” External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna’s statement that any future terror attack on India could impact bilateral ties.

Making a suo motu reference to Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson’s statement, Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed urged the Pakistan government to restrain its officials from making such ‘loose statements.’

The Pakistan Foreign Office was reacting to Mr. Krishna’s reported remarks to a magazine that “any repeat of such [26/11 type] attacks will have serious repercussions on bilateral ties.”

According to the Congress, Mr. Krishna was merely echoing the sentiment of the Government of India and the nation when he made this remark. “Undoubtedly, such statements would affect ties and we hope Pakistan will exercise restraint.”
