Jiang calls for harmony in S. Asia

Beijing Dec. 25. In an apparent message to India and Pakistan, the Chinese President, Jiang Zemin, today urged countries in South Asia to live in harmony and treat each other as equals so as to maintain regional peace and stability.

"China sincerely hopes that countries in South Asia will treat each other on an equal footing and co-exist in harmony," he said during a meeting here with the visiting Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia.

"China attaches importance to the development of friendly relations with neighbouring countries including Bangladesh," he said.
