Hurriyat faction invites Shabir Shah to join it

SRINAGAR DEC. 4. The Abbas Ansari-led Hurriyat Conference has formally invited the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief, Shabir Shah, to join it in the interest of the "freedom movement" and make the peace process a success.

After a meeting of its general council, senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Farooq told The Hindu on Wednesday that "we have formally invited Shabir Shah to join the fold in the larger interests of the freedom movement and to make the peace process a success so that a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem is found. We recognise the sacrifices of Mr. Shah and he has an important role in the resolution of Kashmir problem."

The Mirwaiz said the general council further extended its approval to the stand taken on the issue of dialogue with the Centre. Some more organisations had approached the Hurriyat for joining it. Mr. Shah was suspended from the Hurriyat a few years ago following which he set up the DFP.
