``Hope journalists' issue will be sorted out''

CHENNAI NOV. 13. The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, today said he was "optimistic" that the problems arising out of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly sentencing six journalists would be "sorted out." He said this in a brief interaction with the press on the sidelines of the seventh national e-Governance Conference here.

Asked if the Union Government would direct the Tamil Nadu Assembly to withdraw the arrest order, he said that it was not for the Union Government "to ask the Legislature to do this or that".

Earlier, at the old Meenambakkam airport, a warm welcome was given to Mr. Advani, who arrived here this morning by a special IAF aircraft from New Delhi. The Deputy Prime Minister was received at the tarmac by State Ministers O. Paneerselvam, C. Ponnaiyan and D. Jayakumar, the Chief Secretary, Lakshmi Pranesh and the Director-General of Police, I.K. Govind. Mr. Advani was also greeted by L. Ganesan, BJP national secretary and C.P. Radhakrishnan, president of the State BJP unit. Later in the afternoon, Mr. Advani returned to Delhi.
