Hiren Mukherjee cremated

KOLKATA, AUG. 1. The veteran Communist leader, Hiren Mukherjee, who died here on Friday, was cremated today.

Among those present at the crematorium were the West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and Chairman of the Left Front, Biman Bose.

Covered by wreaths the body which had been kept at a funeral parlour was first taken in a procession to his residence in the morning. From there it was taken to the Rabindra Sadan cultural complex and then to the party offices of the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) before starting on its last journey to the Keoratala crematorium in south Kolkata.

The CPI general secretary, A.B. Bardhan, the CPI(M) state secretary, Anil Biswas, Mr. Bhattacharjee and Mr. Bose and other leaders of the two Communist parties were among those who laid wreaths.
