Gavai appointed Bihar Governor

NEW DELHI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Thursday appointed R.S. Gavai to be the Governor of Bihar with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, says a Rashtrapati Bhavan press communiqué here.

The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Buta Singh last year. West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi was appointed to discharge additional responsibilities as Bihar Governor. Mr. Gavai was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2000 till April 2006. He was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998 from Amravati.
