Fourth accused in Asansol gang-rape held

The prime accused in the alleged gang-rape of a polytechnic college student in Rupnarayanpur in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district last month was arrested from Arrah in Bihar on Monday.

With his arrest, four people have been apprehended in connection with the case so far, the police said on Tuesday.

The first-year student was allegedly drugged and raped by four persons in the college’s student union room on October 9. A first information report was lodged two days later against five persons by the victim’s father.

Among the three persons arrested earlier in connection with the incident, is the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress student wing of the college.

He was nabbed from Dhanbad railway station in Jharkhand on October 30. A girl who had taken the victim to the student union room is still absconding.

A search is on to track her, the police said.
