Fernandes revokes suspension of MPs, MLAs

New Delhi, Nov. 6. George Fernandes, president of the Samata Party (which will officially cease to exist after its National Council ratifies its merger with JD-United) today revoked the expulsion of Lok Sabha members, Raghunath Jha, Brahmanand Mandal and MLAs, Ganesh Paswan and Bhai Virendra with immediate effect.

"Their membership of the national executive of the party is also restored and they will enjoy all the rights of a member of the party,'' an official press note issued here today said. No reasons were assigned for the revocation of the expulsion order.

The party general secretary and spokesman, Shiv Kumar, said although the Samata Party had merged with the JD(U), the party would officially cease to exist after the National Council of the party ratified the decision. The meeting will be convened after the Assembly elections.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Jha said he and his colleagues had neither received any expulsion order nor anything official revoking the expulsion. He said he would decide the future course of action after consultations with his colleagues who were in Bihar.

On Tuesday, Mr. Jha and Mr. Mandal had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Chief Election Commissioner against the merger and said the Samata Party should be recognised as such along with its symbol and flag.
