Fernandes for review of PSU disinvestment

CHENNAI Nov. 7. The Samata Party leader and NDA convenor, George Fernandes, said today that there was nothing wrong in conducting a mid-term review of the Centre's disinvestment proposal for the public sector units.

Asked if his party had asked for such a review, he asked: "What is wrong with a mid-term review?'' Such reviews were part of the Five Year Plans and "something as important as the disinvestment process needed a review," he said.

Mr. Fernandes said the media was responsible for speculation on his party's stand on disinvestments. He had written two letters to the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, on the issue. "The communication was between me and the Prime Minister" he said. It found its way to the press. "The leak was not from my end", he told mediapersons here.
