The dreaded encephalitis that has reared its head in summer in Bihar has claimed the lives of 30 children so far. Most of the deaths have been reported from Muzaffarpur and adjoining districts, officials told The Hindu .
As many as 108 cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), marked by fever and convulsions, that affect children under 15 years of age have been detected. AES deaths were reported from Muzaffarpur, East and West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi and Vaishali districts. Two deaths have also been reported from Nepal, Gyan Bhushan, civil surgeon, Muzaffarpur, told The Hindu .
