Differences in LTTE?

COLOMBO, MARCH 3. A rift is reportedly brewing in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam over the deployment of cadres in northern Sri Lanka and the recent killing of non-LTTE political activists in the eastern Batticaloa district.

According to sources in the east, differences of opinion surfaced over a request from the LTTE's northern military command to deploy 1,000 additional eastern fighters and over calls for action against those suspected in the recent killings of non-LTTE political functionaries in Batticaloa.

LTTE denial

The LTTE office in Batticaloa, however, denied the reports. "We clearly state that we are not involved in the election killings and there is no difference of views within the LTTE," a functionary said.
