'Defence Ministry allocation sufficient'

NEW DELHI, DEC. 27. Even as he assured allocation of additional funds for the Defence Ministry in case the need arises, the Union Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, today said that the Ministry's allocation for the current fiscal year at Rs. 65,000 crores would be sufficient to meet the country's defence requirement.

``National security will not be compromised at any cost. We are meeting all the requirement of our armed forces, be it for funds, oil or any other thing,'' Mr. Sinha told presspersons after a meeting here with the Union Petroleum Minister, Mr. Ram Naik.

The Finance Minister also added that the current year's defence budget at Rs. 65,000 crores had enough cushion to meet the country's defence requirement. The Defence Ministry had not yet come up with any additional fund requirement proposal, he said but added that ``in case the Ministry of Defence comes up for additional resources, we will certainly look at it.''
