Deceased soldier’s samples test negative for Nipah

The fluid samples of the 27-year-old soldier, who died in Kolkata last week, has tested negative for Nipah virus.

“The Nipah virus tests conducted by the National Institute of Virology, Pune, in the case of deceased soldier Seenu Prasad have come negative. It was not a case of Nipah virus infection,” said Wing Commander S.S. Birdi, Chief Public Relations Officer in Kolkata for the Ministry of Defence.

Prasad, hailing from Kerala, had gone on a month-long leave to his home.

Joined duty after leave

He rejoined duty at Kolkata’s Fort William, the headquarters of the Army’s Eastern Command, on May 13.

He was admitted to the Command Hospital in Kolkata on May 20 and passed away on May 25.
