Death of Indian sergeant: U.S. Embassy expresses sadness

NEW DELHI DEC. 4. The United States Embassy today expressed its sadness over the killing of Sergeant Uday Singh while serving with the U.S. forces in Iraq.

An embassy statement said that Sergeant Singh's "honourable service has been recognised by the U.S. armed forces" and that the U.S. Embassy conveys its deepest sympathy, respect and support to his family.

Sergeant Singh, 21, son of an Army officer from Chandigarh, was killed when his unit was ambushed in Habbaniyah, near Baghdad, on December 1. He had enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 2001.
