Curfew in Maharashtra town

MUMBAI Aug 10. An indefinite curfew was imposed in Mehkar town of Buldhana district in Vidarbha region, Maharashtra, in the early hours today after a communal clash triggered police firing, police sources said.

The police opened fire to quell arsonists indulging in looting and damaging shops. Three persons were injured in the firing and 40 others were detained.The town remained quiet but tense as the police parties patrolled the streets.

A street quarrel over a petty matter took an ugly turn last night and sparked off the clash near the town cinema hall.
