CPI(M) to join J&K panel

NEW DELHI OCT. 31. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today decided to be part of the coordination committee proposed to be set up in Jammu and Kashmir, while it has not yet addressed the issue of joining the coalition government.

With work on the formation of the People's Democratic Party-led government getting underway in Srinagar, the CPI(M) politburo discussed the situation with its State representatives here.

"We have decided to have our representative in the coordination committee," the politburo member, Prakash Karat, told The Hindu here.

Taking into account the current situation, the party's role and the need to implement the Common Minimum Programme adopted jointly by the People's Democratic Party, the Congress, the CPI(M) and the Panthers Party, the CPI(M) decided to have a person on the coordination committee.
