KOLKATA NOV. 6. The CPI(M) today demanded an administrative inquiry into the killing of 19 persons at the Dalgaon tea estate in Jalpaiguri, but said the incident had nothing to do with politics.
The CPI(M) State secretary, Anil Biswas, told newsmen here that the tea garden was witnessing "anti-social" activities for sometime now and the workers union had taken initiative to stop these.
A section of the anti-social elements had provoked the tea garden workers and encouraged parochialism regarding recruitment in the garden, he said.
The CPI(M) leader said tension prevailed in the garden since morning and some scared people had taken shelter in the residence of the union leader, Tarakeswar Lohar. — PTI
