Cong. bid to woo PWP

MUMBAI OCT. 31. Moves to bring back the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), a left-of-centre party, into the coalition Government in Maharashtra have gathered momentum with the senior AICC functionary, Vayalar Ravi, establishing contact with it. The PWP walked out of the Government, led by Vilasrao Deshmukh, in July complaining of problems in Raigad district, which is its stronghold, and expressing dissatisfaction with the Government's policies.

As the party extended only issue-based support from outside, the Government was forced to woo 10 Independents for support. Ministerial posts were given to four of them. The Nationalist Congress Party, a major coalition partner, today indicated that it had no objection to the return of the PWP to the Government and that it was up to Mr. Deshmukh to handle this matter.
