Book on Rajaji bags Sahitya award

NEW DELHI, DEC. 22. Well-known writer Mr. Rajmohan Gandhi's biography on `Rajaji' and Kannada writer, Mr. L.S. Seshagiri Rao's work `English Sahitya Charitre' (history of literature) are among 22 books selected for this year's ``Sahitya Akademi Awards''.

The awards were selected on the basis of recommendations of a jury of three members at its executive board meeting held here today, the Akademi said in a press release.

Each award carrying a prize of Rs. 25,000 and a plaque would be presented at a function here on February 19 next, it said.

The other awardees and their works are: Assamese - Edhani Mahir Hanhi (Mahim Bora), Bengali - Panchashti Galpa (Atin Bandyopadhyay), Dogri - Nighe Rang (Virender Kesar), Gujarati - Agantuk (Dhiruben Patel), Hindi - Kali- Katha: via by pass (Alka Saraogi), Kashmiri - Rekhe (late Mohi-ud-din Gowhar), Konkani - Yaman (Madhav Borkar), Maithili -Pratijna Pandava (late Babuajee Jha `Ajnat').

Malayalam - Attoor Ravivarmayute Kavitakal (Attoor Ravivarma), Manipuri - Khongji Makhol (N. Sunita), Marathi - Tanakat (Rajan Gavas), Nepali - Aahat Anubhuti (Lakhi Devi Sundas), Oriya - Tanmaya Dhuli (Pratibha Satpathy), Punjabi - Shabdant (Dev), Rajasthani - Gharano (Abdul Waheed `Kamal'), Sanskrit - Ko Vai Rasah (Psriramachandrudu), Sindhi - Bhagat (Prem Prakash), Tamil - Sudanthira Daagam (late C.S. Chellappa), Telugu - Hampi Nunchi Harappa Daka (late Tirumala Ramachandra) and Urdu - Taoos Chaman Ki Maina (Nayyar Masood).
