Calls for implementation of family planning

ALAPPUZHA: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Venkaiah Naidu has said the party stands by its ideals of the Common Civil Code, the abrogation of Article 370 and opposition to job reservation based on religion. He called for a pro-active policy to ensure the implementation of family planning in the larger interests of the nation.

Mr. Naidu was inaugurating the BJP State Ccommittee meeting in Ambalappuzha on Sunday. In a speech that asserted the BJP's return to hardcore Hindutva ideals, Mr. Naidu said the party did not hesitate to talk about Hindutva. Explaining the BJP's ideas on family planning, he said a policy based on incentives for those who adopted family planning and disincentives for those who refused to do so should be implemented.

The party supported equal rights for women in all aspects and would support women's reservation in Parliament and other elected bodies, said Mr. Naidu.

Promote Indian ethos

Mr. Naidu demanded that the country's education system and the media should promote Indian ethos.

The BJP was not for cultural policing, but it should be ensured that the information disseminated through the media and text books should be in tune with age-old values.

Mr. Naidu demanded that all infiltrators from Bangladesh and Pakistan be identified, arrested and deported.

He supported the reforms in economy but said the party was for reforms with a human face.
