Bank unions in State to join Aug. 5 strike

The AP unit of United Forum of Bank Unions has decided to participate in the All-India Bank Strike on August 5 opposing reforms in the banking sector and seeking redressal of their long-pending demands.

The association of unions expressed serious concern over various financial policies of the government stating that they are detrimental to the interests of the banking sector, public, banking staff and their rights and benefits.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, AP unit convener of UFBU P. Nanda Kishore and others said that about 10 lakh workmen and officers working in public and private sector, foreign, regional rural and cooperative banks all over the country would participate in the strike opposing the banking sector reforms.

The UFBU was against outsourcing of bank jobs and the Khandelwal Committee recommendations, he said.
