A witch-hunt: Sharad Yadav

LUCKNOW: Senior Janata Dal (United) leader and former Union Minister, Sharad Yadav, on Saturday alleged a witch-hunt by the ruling United Progressive Alliance against the NDA convener and former Defence Minister, George Fernandes.

Addressing newspersons here, he alleged that the UPA was functioning on the principles of vendetta. ``They are only seeking revenge and nothing else.''

The former Union Minister claimed that after giving the former Defence Minister a clean chit in defence purchases made during the Kargil war, the UPA took a U-turn and filed a fresh affidavit in court. ``This is an example of vendetta politics,'' he added.

Mr. Yadav also demanded that the Phukan Commission report on tehelka be made public. ``To protest the UPA move of not making the report public, the State unit of the party will hold state-wide demonstrations on April 25.''

He claimed that the UPA Government had failed to keep its promises. ``Instead the Central Government has failed on all fronts...its rule has only given rise to corruption,'' he added. — UNI
