Truce with NSCN(K) may be extended

KOHIMA: The ongoing ceasefire between the Centre and the Khaplang-led National Socialist Council of Nagaland, which expires this month, is likely to be extended by another year as the outfit has expressed its desire to continue the truce.

The outfit’s representatives in the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) on Thursday left for New Delhi and will hold a meeting with the Union Home Ministry officials on Friday, sources in the organisation said. Prior to their departure, a review meeting of CFSB, chaired by its chairman Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Mandhata Singh, discussed maintenance of peace in Nagaland. The meeting, held at Dimapur on Tuesday, was attended by government representatives in the surveillance mechanism where underground members expressed their desire for extension of ceasefire . — PTI
