Trial test of swine flu virus

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government on Saturday decided to begin testing of A H1N1 influenza virus on a trial basis at Sawai Man Singh Hospital here from next week and launch a month-long drive in the State under the National Rural Health Mission for generating public awareness about the disease.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at Swasthya Bhavan here, State Medical and Health Minister Aimaduddin Ahmed Khan said the private hospitals would be asked to reserve a certain percentage of beds for admitting swine flu patients and ventilators would be supplied on priority to all district hospitals.

Mr. Khan said regular testing of virus would begin at S.M.S. Hospital from October 15.

“The private laboratories will be authorised to collect the samples and send them for testing, while the physicians posted at community health centres in the border districts will be asked to provide treatment to patients at the preliminary stage of infection,” he said.

The Minister said each district in the State would be given Rs.5 lakh under NRHM for launching the awareness campaign. The doctors at government hospitals have been asked to keep a special watch on people coming into contact with confirmed swine flu patients.
