Praise for Hindi films

Singapore: Appreciating Bollywood for showcasing India’s history through films, senior Singaporean Minister Lee Boon Yang said he enjoyed the few Hindi movies he had seen.

“Last week I was glued to the TV and saw some fine examples of cultural exports of movies from India. I had watched some of the Hindi movies on previous Sundays too,” Mr. Lee, Singapore’s Information, Communications and Arts Minister, told a gathering at a cultural extravaganza of incredibleindia@60 here last evening.

“I saw Monsoon Wedding, Bride and Prejudice and Mangal Pandey,” the Minister told the audience.

Mr. Lee said he had found Aamir Khan’s ‘Mangal Pandey’ to be an excellent film and had “learnt so much from the two-and-a half hour film about India’s history and how India had rallied together to get its freedom.”

Film actor Kabir Bedi, who was the emcee of the cultural extravaganza, quipped that the Minister should watch “Om Shanti Om” to gain further insight into Indian films. — PTI
