IMPHAL: No newspaper hit the stands in Manipur on Thursday as a result of the cease-work strike launched by journalists from Wednesday, demanding, among others, a judicial inquiry into the killing of a scribe, Konsam Rishikanta, on Monday.

The local cable service also blanked out news service.

There has been no response from the government on the demands. Besides, official sources said the police had not made any progress in the investigation.

The scribes launched a sit-in for the second day on Thursday.

Disclosing that there was no response from the government, Sagolshem Hemanta, president of the All-Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, said top-ranking police officers had sought his cooperation in the investigation instead of taking a “confrontationist stand.”
