CHENNAI: The fourth edition of the Madras Week celebrations is to be held here from August 19 to 26.
The event would feature talks, walks, exhibitions, quizzes and contests, according to historian S. Muthiah. It was on August 22, 1639, that the Nayak of Tondaimandalam region signed the grant of three square miles of land to the East India Company, he said in a statement issued here on behalf of the organisers.
“A few heritage and history enthusiasts, most of them writers, four years ago decided to mark this day and around August 22, developed Madras Week, a celebration with little sponsorship and a lot of enthusiasm from individuals, organisations and institutions volunteering to arrange heritage programmes through the week.”
