KOLKATA: The ruling Left Front in West Bengal on Tuesday announced the list of its candidates for the November 7 by-elections to 10 Assembly seats.

Among them are three youth leaders and Ramala (Bhattacharya) Chakraborty, widow of senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Subhas Chakraborty. She will contest from Belgachia (East), which her husband had won seven times in a row.

The CPI(M) will contest in six constituencies, with the rest going to its allies, the All lndia Forward Bloc, the Communist Party of India, the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Democratic Socialist Party.

Left Front Committee chairman Biman Bose announced the names of the candidates, shortly after leaders of the Front met.

The Trinamool Congress will contest in seven seats, leaving three to its ally, the Congress. It announced its list on Monday evening.

The by-elections are significant as they come ahead of the 2011 Assembly elections. While the Left Front is preparing itself for a turn-around in the wake of a series of electoral reversals suffered by it in recent elections, the TC-Congress electoral alliance is keen to ensure that its winning streak continues.
