FIR filed against 272 account holders of SBI

Raipur: An FIR was registered against 272 account holders of Main Branch of State Bank of India to investigate the source of alleged fake currency notes deposited with the bank, police said.

ASP Ajatshatru Bahadur Singh (crime) said that the FIR was registered on Saturday against 272 people and the currency notes submitted with the bank will be sent to Dewas for further verification. “Once genuineness of the currency notes are verified at mint at Dewas, we wo-uld call each of these account holders to find-out the source of the currency,” he said.

The FIR was registered at the Maudahapara Police station in the city under which the SBI main branch falls.

Mr. Singh said SBI Main branch officials had submitted a list of 272 account holders who had deposited money with the branch between May 5 and November 10 this year to the SP, Raipur, Amit Kumar on December 17.

49 notes of Rs 1000 denomination, 319 of Rs 500 denomination and eight notes of Rs 100 denomination, all worth Rs 2,09,300 were found fake, he said. -- PTI
