Guwahati: It was celebration time for the entire State on Friday night after Debojit Saha of Assam clinched the "Voice of India" title in the grand finale of the ZEE TV's music talent hunt show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005, beating Vinit Singh of Uttar Pradesh.

The streets of Guwahati and all major towns witnessed celebration with people singing and dancing, the moment the young singer from Assam was declared winner of the two finalists. They burst crackers throughout the night.

During the day the city streets came alive with slogans of "Vote for Debojit," "Send SMS for Debojit," "Debojit's victory will be Assam's victory."

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), which stirred the "vote Debojit" campaign, said "Debojit's victory has proved that there is an India beyond Kolkata." The student body thanked the people for responding to its appeal and making Debojit victorious.

"We are happy that the people of Assam and other States of the northeast succeeded in defeating the conspiracy to prevent Debojit Saha from becoming Voice of India," said AASU adviser Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya.

Debojit's hometown Silchar, which witnessed violence earlier in the day after a mob ransacked the office of BSNL and Airtel, began the victory celebration from midnight.
