NEW DELHI: A crane at an under-construction Metro station at Saket here toppled on Saturday, causing panic in the city. Even as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) maintained there was no casualty, it is feared that a number of labourers were injured.

“The 50-tonne capacity crane, which was lifting a smaller capacity crane (Hydra), developed a mechanical problem as one of the cylinders used for lifting the boom (lifting arm) of the bigger crane failed,” said a Metro spokesperson.

The crane, hired by Larsen and Toubro from Global Hydraulic Sales, was manufactured in 2006 and certified fit for operations.

Saturday’s incident on the Connaught Place-Gurgaon metro line in Said-ul-Ajab area, was the fourth since July 12 relating to the Metro.
