Mayawati’s action follows ‘tardy progress in development works’

Review meeting held at CM’s residence

LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday suspended 14 officers, including four police officers, for tardy progress in development works.

During the day, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of development projects in Kanpur, Agra, Chitrakoot and Jhansi Divisions. Disciplinary action has been taken so far against 23 officials of government departments.

Taking a strong view of laxity in implementation of welfare schemes and delay in action on FIRs, the Chief Minister suspended the Additional SP of Firozabad, Ashfaque Ahmed; the Additional SP of Agra, Vinay Kumar Yadav; the Deputy SP of Kanpur Nagar, Bajrang Bali; and the Deputy SP of Naraini in Banda district, Ashok Kumar Rai.

Among the other officers suspended are three executive engineers of Chitrakoot and Kanpur power distribution divisions, Deputy Panchayat Raj Officers of Mahoba and Firozabad, three PWD engineers posted in Mainpuri, Etah and Chitrakoot and Block Development Officers of Badhohar in Banda and Sakeet in Etah district.

The remaining nine officers were let off with written warnings and adverse entries.

Ms. Mayawati conducted the review at her official residence here following which she despatched the State Cabinet Secretary, Shashank Shekhar Singh, along with a team of senior government officials to Kanpur to preside over a divisional level review meeting. Mr. Singh apprised the officers of the Chief Minister’s directives and conducted a physical verification of the ongoing projects.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to speed up the development works and remove the shortcomings. She said the field officers should ensure that the benefits of the welfare measures accrue to the target group and warned the officials that laxity would not be tolerated.

She was particularly firm about maintenance of law and order, and it was during the review of the law and order situation that she suspended the four police officers.

State Chief Secretary P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary (Home) J.N. Chamber and D-G Police Vikram Singh were present at the meeting.
