99 p.c. of terror attacks prevented, says Rahul

It is very difficult to stop every single terrorist attack in the country; however, 99 per cent of the attacks have been prevented due to vigilance and intelligence, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday.

He said the government's response to Wednesday's attack in Mumbai was very prompt. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram was leading that effort and “we are responding to it in quite an organised fashion,” he said.

“It is very difficult to stop every single terrorist attack. The idea is that we have to fight terrorism at the local level. We have improved in leaps and bounds,” he told a press conference here on the second day of his two-day tour of Orissa.

Efforts had to be made prevent all terror attacks. “We must try to stop 100 per cent of attacks. It is something we will fight and defeat,” Mr. Gandhi said.

Mr. Gandhi conveyed his condolences to all families affected by Wednesday's blasts.
