Woman dies after falling into manhole

BANGALORE AUG. 26. A 53-year-old woman, Geetha Mahishi, died after she accidentally fell into a BWSSB manhole at Papireddypalya in Nagarabhavi on Tuesday.

The Jnana Bharathi Police said she had gone for a walk with her husband and grandson, Bhargava (6). The victim and Bhargava fell into the open manhole. The child suffered minor injuries, and Ms. Mahishi died on the spot.

Efforts made by the public to save her life failed. She was rushed to a private hospital where she was declared "brought dead on arrival,'' police said. The Jnana Bharathi Police have taken up a case of unnatural death.

Two commit suicide: Two people committed suicide in separate incidents in the city on Tuesday.

Police said Shankar Prasad (30), a software engineer, ended his life by consuming poison at his house in BEML Layout in Rajarajeshwarinagar. The reason for the suicide is not known. The Byatarayanapura Police have registered a case of unnatural death.

In another incident, police said, Sameer (26) committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of his house in Valmikinagar in Chamarajpet Police Station limits. Police said he had debts. A case of unnatural death have been registered.

Dies of burns: Parvathi (31) died of burns in Victoria Hospital on Monday night. Police said Parvathi, a mother of three, was the second wife of Subba Rao. Police, who alleged that Rao had set her afire after dousing her with kerosene, are on the look out for him. The Ulsoor Police have registered a case of murder.

Killed in accident: Shashikala (24) of Chamarajpet, who was riding pillion with her husband, Madhava Rao, on a motorcycle, was killed on the spot when the vehicle overturned after hitting a road hump near Maragondalu village in Magadi Police Station limits in Bangalore Rural District on Tuesday. Police said the couple were returning to Bangalore after visiting a temple.
