Vedike to counter Sangh Parivar on Bababudangiri issue

UDUPI, OCT. 11. K.L. Ashok, secretary to the Central Committee of the Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, on Saturday said the vedike would chalk out a programme to counter the Sangh Parivar on the Bababudangiri issue in Chikamgalur district.

He told presspersons that the vedike had decided to take out a padayatra and a "vehicle jatha" to counter the affiliates of the Sangh Parivar in the villages of Chikmagalur district. A delegation of the vedike would meet the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and urge them to take steps to maintain law and order in the district, he said.

Communalism

He alleged that BJP leaders including C.T. Ravi, Jeevaraj, and the Karkala MLA, Sunil Kumar, were spreading communalism in the region by encouraging various rituals. The vedike was in possession of audio cassettes of the speeches given by these leaders and Praveen Togadia, General Secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat, and Pramod Muthalik.

The vedike would urge the State Government to ban all activities of the Sangh Parivar as it would foment communal disharmony in Chikmagalur, he said.

G. Rajshekhar, honorary president of the vedike's Udupi unit, said his organisation was concerned about the "increasing attacks on Muslims and Christians by the Sangh Parivar in the coastal districts."

`Datta Mala'

Our Mangalore Staff Correspondent reports:

The district committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that a large number of its party workers from Dakshina Kannada district will participate in the "Datta Mala Abhinaya" to be held at Datta Peeta in Chikmagalur district on October 31.

A press release from Pratap Simha Nayak, president of the BJP district unit, said a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the district committee on Saturday.

The meeting also expressed concern over the bad condition of roads in the district. Noting that most of the major roads in the district were in a bad condition, the committee felt that heavy rain in this part of the State and movement of heavy vehicles had contributed to the poor state of roads.

It urged the Government to release special grants to the district to enable the authorities concerned to carry out the repairs.

The meeting, which also discussed erratic power supply in the district and irregularities in the distribution of ration cards, endorsed a move by the BJP Yuva Morcha to organise a dharna on Monday to highlight the issues.

Shivaram Malli, Vice-President of district unit, and others were present.
