Two held for cheating woman

COIMBATORE, MARCH 17. The police have arrested two persons on the charge of cheating a woman posing as jewel polishers and decamping with 13 sovereigns of jewellery.

According to a complaint from Poongothai Senthilkumar, Rubash Kumar (31) and Chandraprasad (35) hailing from Bihar and residing at Kavundampalayam on the outskirts of the city came to her house on Wednesday stating that they would get her gold jewels polished.

They handed over to her some fake jewellery and decamped with the original. The Peelamedu police arrested them during a vehicle-check and recovered the jewellery.

Man held

A 45-year-old real estate promoter, Ravichandran of Tiruchi, was held on the charge of cheating 160 persons who had booked house sites with him. Ms. Kanagarathnam of Thadagam Road had complained to the police that Ravichandran had taken Rs. 2,000 as advance for a house site and had failed to provide her with the land nor refunded the money in spite of repeated requests. Crime Branch Police are investigating.

Placed under suspension

The Joint Registrar of Cooperative Society, Ramamurthy, today placed under suspension three PDS shop assistants in the district on the charges of irregularities.

A 50-member team of Cooperative Department officials led by Sub-Registrars, raided PDS shops across the district and examined the stock registers and measured the quantity of kerosene supplied to cardholders. Following detection of irregularities, Mr. Ramamurthy ordered the suspension of three shop assistants.
