Three women run over by lorry

BANGALORE, NOV. 29. Three women were run over by a lorry at Babusapalya bus stand in Frazer Town police station limits on Monday evening.

The police identified the dead as Ragini (25), Usha S. Bayer (48), and Janaki Ramesh (43), all from Babusapalya. The police said the driver of the lorry, which was coming to the city from Malur, swerved to avoid hitting an autorickshaw, and the vehicle ran over three women at the bus stand. Ragini, along with her two relatives, was on the way to attend a wedding. Usha and Janaki, who were related, were waiting to cross the road.

Two of the victims died on the spot and one on the way to hospital. Hanumanth (35) and Devakumar (43), who were injured, were admitted to hospital. The police have seized the lorry and are on the lookout for the driver.

Residents' protest

Following the accident, residents of the area staged a demonstration demanding that a traffic signal be installed and a median built on the road near the bus stop. The police had to resort to a mild caning to disperse the crowd.
