Telco's vehicle sales up in Q1

MUMBAI, JULY 20. Tata Engineering and Locomotive's sale of passenger cars and utility vehicles in the domestic market during April-June 2000 was 20,595 units registering a growth of 55.7 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The company sold 14,448 passenger cars and 6,147 utility vehicles acquiring a 10.4 per cent share of the total passenger car market and 25.6 per cent of the utility vehicle market against 6.2 per cent and 24.5 per cent respectively in the same period of the previous year.The company registered a sales of 6,300 vehicles in June 2000. Indica sales in June were 4,085 numbers making it the second largest selling car in its segment for the second month since March 2000.

According to a company release, during the first quarter, Indica's market share was up at 20.6 per cent in its segment against 16.2 per cent during the same period last year.

Utility vehicle sales in June were 2,204 numbers posting a growth of 13.6 per cent during the first quarter.
