Teachers, students to be trained in fire prevention

BANGALORE, JULY 24. Teachers and students of the city and other parts of the State will be trained in fire prevention, fire fighting, and evacuation measures.

This and several other measures were discussed at a meeting about fire safety in schools on Saturday conducted by the Director-General of Police and Director, Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services, Y.S. Rao The meeting was held in the background of the fire tragedy at a school in Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from officers of Fire and Emergency Services, the meeting was attended by officers of Public Instruction, Public Works, and Municipal Administration departments.

They discussed the need to ascertain fire resistance quality of the material used for construction in schools, colleges, and anganwadis, and safety requirements and the corrective steps needed.

Regarding measures for creating awareness about fire safety, the meeting discussed introducing a chapter in the high school syllabus about fire prevention, fire fighting, and evacuation measures.
