Teacher posts: non-local candidates assaulted

NIZAMABAD, JULY 6. Ten candidates from Cuddapah district, who came here to submit their application forms for the vacant teachers posts through the District Selection Committee (DSC), were allegedly assaulted and prevented from submitting their application forms by the local candidates on Friday.

For the second day today, the non-local candidates from other districts of the State continued to be targeted and faced the wrath of the local candidates and got assaulted for daring to submit their application forms for 15 per cent of seats reserved for non-local candidates.

Ten candidates from Cuddapah district who had come to submit their application forms for teacher posts in the District Selection Committee were accosted by members of the self-styled outfit going by the name of Telangana Unemployed Persons Forum. The forum members allegedly forced them to hand over their application forms for scrutiny. After finding out that the candidates were not from Nizamabad, the forum members issued an ultimatum to the outsiders to go away without submitting their applications.

The hapless candidates left the place but came back after some time under the impression that the forum members would not be present. As ill-luck would have, they were again cornered by the locals who asked them to tear the application forms. As the non- local candidates refused to do so, they were allegedly assaulted and prevented from submitting their application forms. The candidates rushed to the One Town Police station.

On seeing the police, the forum members escaped from the scene. Police personnel were then deployed at the Deputy Education Officer's office to provide security to outsiders. With the help of the local police, non-local candidates submitted their application forms.

According to sources, the forum comprises unemployed Physical Education Teachers awaiting Government jobs. These PETs reportedly formed the forum and deputed at least two members to keep vigil at the various counters.
