Swati music fete from Nov. 15

KOZHIKODE NOV. 10. The Swati Music Dais will celebrate its 16th annual festival `Swati Tirunal Sangeetolsavam 2002' at the Snehanjali Kalyana Mandapam, Kallai Road, here from November 15 to 17.

The Northern Range Inspector General of Police, Venugopal K. Nair will inaugurate the festival at 5-30 p.m. on November 15. He will present the T. M. B. Nedungadi Memorial Scholarship to C. K. Shaji, second year music student of the Government College, Chittoor, Palakkad, on the occasion.

T. M. Sarvothaman Nedungadi, C. K. Ramachandran and Rajeswari Nedungadi, will speak at the function. Gayathri Venkataraghavan of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Semmangudi School, will perform a music concert along with S. R. Vinu on the violin and G. Babu on the mridangam, at 6-30 p.m. on the same day.

Gouri Lakshmi Bhai Thampuratti of Travancore royal family will inaugurate the programmes on November 16. The flautist, K. S. Gopalakrishnan, accompanied by V. Srikanth on violin and N. Sudarsan on mridangam and Uduppi S. Sreedhar on ghatam, will perform a concert on the second day.

Competitions in rendering the compositions of Swati Tirunal will be held for seniors in the age group 16-25 years at 10 a.m. on the concluding day of the festival on November 17.

The Kerala High Court Judge, Justice. R. Basant, will inaugurate the valedictory function in the evening. He will also distribute the prizes to all the winners in the competitions. T. M. Sarvothaman Nedungadi, will preside over the function.

The first prize winner in the competitions will present a krithi before the main concert. Neyveli Santhanagopalan, disciple of the noted musician, Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan, will present a music concert with V. Srikanth (Mysore) on the violin and R. Ramesh (Chennai) on the mridangam.

The admission to the sangeethotsavam will be free to the public. The Swati Music Dais, president, T. M. Sarvothaman Nedungadi, and the secretary, N. Babu Swamy, are giving final touches to the three-day programme.
