Students clash, eight held

BANGALORE, JULY 24. Two groups of students of a local college clashed on Friday and hurled stones at a building in Prashanthnagar in Vijayanagar police station limits damaging its windowpanes.

The police said rivalry between two students from West Bengal, who are studying at a college at Cholanayakanahalli in Hebbal police station limits, was the reason for the clash.

According to the police, Vishal and Somaki, students, had fought a few days ago.

On Friday, 20 students, said to be Vishal's friends, came to the house in Prashanthnagar where Somaki's friends are staying and clashed with them.

The students, who came on 10 motorcycles, allegedly hurled stones at the house damaging its windowpanes.

This led to commotion in the area and the residents informed the police.

The staff of Hoysala patrol squad arrested eight of the 20 students.

The arrested are students of B.Sc. (Biotechnology) and hail from New Delhi, West Bengal, and Nepal, the police said.

The Vijayanagar police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the other students.
