'Seer' arrested in cheating case

BANGALORE Sept. 21. Upparpet police have arrested Sevalal Sangana Basava Swami, alias Ramdas (30) from Basava Kendra, Gandhinagar, on charges of cheating several students of crores of rupees. The students were allegedly promised dental seats in a college run by him and his associates.

Police said the accused, along with his associates, had collected crores of rupees from students who were offered seats in Sri Sevalal Dental Mahavidyalaya and Hospital located in the city's Medahalli. The college was not recognised by the State Government, police said.

While Ramdas was remanded in police custody till September 24, police were looking for his associates, Mohan Kumar, Neeraj Kumar, Jeetendra, Sanjay Pal, Suresh and Raghunathan. Several students had lodged a complaint with Upparpet police. Police said they arrested Ramdas as he was planning to flee the city.


Ulsoor Gate police arrested Lokesh (18) of Anekal and Bora Singh (25) of Rajasthan on charges of stealing silk saris from Cubbonpet. Silk saris worth about Rs. 8,000 were recovered from their possession, police said.Police said two days ago, the complainant, Mr. Rajshekhar had left his bag with 40 silk saris near a shop and had gone to have coffee. On returning, the saris were stolen, allegedly by Lokesh. The accused, Bora Singh, had allegedly stolen two saris from a sari shop in Cubbonpet, where he was employed. He was caught red-handed by the shop owner, police said.

Ganja seized

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police raided two houses in Cottonpet Salabandhawadi and arrested four persons, allegedly involved in peddling of ganja. Police seized 2.6 kg. of ganja and Rs. 1,050 cash from their possession.
